About Us
The Credo Recovery format relies heavily on the principles of Cursillo, Kairos and Tres Dias. These are Christian organizations that are referred to as 4th day communities. The focus of these communities are to help make people aware of how to enhance their walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Credo Recovery follows these same teachings, however, they are adapted to target people who are in addiction recovery. Where we differ from the other fourth day communities is that the meditations and talks are focused on the obstacles that people in addiction recovery must overcome before they can take that next step towards sobriety.

A Brief History
Credo Recovery was founded by Frank Rocks in 1994 and held its first weekend for alcoholics and addicts in 1995 in New Jersey. The movement remained in West Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey for some time. In 2005, Credo Recovery expanded to Illinois. It was a God send. John Halleran went to a convention in Williamsburg VA in August 2004. As he entered his hotel, a man approached him about Credo. When John asked the man why he was singled out, the reply was that, “God told him to tell the first person who came through that door about Credo Recovery.” John, a recovering alcoholic himself, was impressed with what he heard and brought the ministry to Illinois. He built a team but had no candidates.
John Grotjohn and Ed Caputo had been running weekends for two years. They had candidates but no team. Ed and John Halleran connected on the computer. They merged and the rest is history.
In June 2005, the first men’s weekend occurred in Illinois. Doug Hess was the team leader. In June 2006, the first women’s weekend took place. Linda Mensching was the first team leader for the ladies.
In 2007, Steven DeCillis from Long Island was at an International meeting for Tres Dias in Poughkeepsie, NY where he met Paul Weis from Illinois. Paul mentioned Credo in a talk and Steven asked him more about it later. Paul invited Steven to experience the next Credo weekend in Illinois the following summer. Steven attended and was very impressed and excited about the weekend. With plenty of help from other Credo communities and the Long Island Tres Dias community, Steven has brought Credo Recovery home to Long Island.
